Overheard at this place
People walk right by this artwork and have no idea what the significance of it is. Standing there, at nighttime, it glows orange from underneath.
The O’Leary Barn was here, off de Koven and Jefferson. You can imagine the flames sweeping north east on that horrible night in 1871. It’s very powerful to remember that over a hundred years ago 300 people died and a city was almost wiped away.
Yet, just as this metal sculpture will never go away, neither will the spirit of the people of Chicago. Rebuilding upon the ashes, it became stronger and is unlike anywhere else in the world.
