i haven’t stayed at the observatory lodge… we stayed across the way though, at a place that had decks over looking the volcano. it was clouded over the entire time we were there though. didn’t see anything except a little lava through the clouds.

I have stayed here. It was great!! The lava flow when I was there was a 7/10, and seeing it at night glowing against the mountain wast the most beutiful sight I have ever seen.
Try doing the zip-cord adventure while you’re there.
Also, you should visit the city of Grecia—they have the world’s largest/only church made from metal. It was also voted the cleanest Latin American city. The people there are so nice!!
Also, try the Cacique
it’s CR’s liquor, equivalent to Mexico’s tequila and Russia’s vodka.

Stayed there one night last June. It was very nice. The rooms are all oriented toward Arenal. Even the beds. Consequently you lay awake all night watching. When we got there in the afternoon it was very cloudy and looked doubtful. But, during the night the clouds blew off and we had some great views. The rumblings of the volcano help you understand why the ancients believed they were inhabited by Gods. Arenal has no such legend because it first blew in 1968 (I think). You’ll enjoy a hike out onto the lava field.

If you can get a booking you should.
