Worth visiting!

From the Suzanne Vega song of the same name.

I like this place. The owner and workers are all super nice, and the food is affordable if not comparable to Nobu or Per Se. This isn’t even on the same island as Columbia, so I don’t know why undergrads would travel all the way to Prospect Heights, Matt Norwood. Are you sure you have the right Tom’s Diner in mind?

By the way, has anyone any idea what “bells of the cathedral” Vega is referring to?

Vega in Manhattan

Reading “The Suzanne Vega Message Board” that Matt linked above, I see the following from the singer herself:

hello towies -

In a message dated 12/3/00 7:22:42 AM, >** writes:

Actually, there is a restaurant in >>Brooklyn that claims to be the “real”
Tom’s Restaurant. The one that Suzanne >>”really” wrote about.

I have never been to the one in Brooklyn. >Never even seen it in fact.

Suzanne (the real one)

So now the cathedrals make sense.

But why is there an autographed photo of Vega at Tom’s in Brooklyn that says “I came, I sat, I wrote”? Misleading, yes!

Suzanne Vega...

went to Barnard undergrad. The Tom’s that’s in Morningside Heights is right down the street from St. John the Divine. It’s not the same place as the diner in Brooklyn…

Bells of the Cathedral= bells of Saint John the Divine around the corner…
