Worth visiting!

Clinton Hill/Fort Greene

Pictured: Broken Angel, home of Arthur and Cynthia Wood

Known for: In landmark Fort Greene, you’ll find graceful houses with lots of period detail along Cumberland, South Portland, and South Oxford Streets—and a lot of strollers: “Fort Greene Park has been completely redone,” says resident Sandra Shepard. “You’ll find a lot of stay-at-home moms. It’s a not-so-rushed lifestyle out here.” For those looking to go out, Fulton Street and Dekalb Avenue provide ample restaurant and nightlife options.

Boundaries: Stretches from Park to Atlantic Avenues, between Flatbush and Franklin Avenues. Vanderbilt Avenue divides Fort Greene to the west and Clinton Hill to the east.

Borders: Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, and Bedford-Stuyvesant

Subway stops: The G train to Fulton Street, Clinton-Washington Avenue, or Classon Avenue, or the C train to Lafayette or Clinton-Washington Avenues.

hm

Where on S4th? I lived on S4th and Bedford for almost a year. I have a lot of friends in Greenpoint who are paying basically nothing for their places—you should never pay more than 400-600 a month for a room in Greenpoint or East Williamsburg/Bushwick.

I think the best areas to look right now are Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, and that whole Northeast band of Brooklyn (Greenpoint and Bushwick). I’m still not happy with BedStuy and would never tell anyone to live there.

Good luck!
