Worth visiting!

gorillas and massacres....

Two things stick in my mind about Uganda. Seeing the absolutely amazing, stunning, beautiful, cute, frightening, handsome silver backed gorillas. Tracking them through the Ugandan countryside, up mountains was truly amazing.
The other side to Uganda which sticks in my mind is being taken to a church by locals that was full of human bones, almost to the cieling from a massacre that took place where over 200 people were killed with machetees.Truly a sight I will never forget as long as I live…...

gorillas

Dear Julyjuniper

They are amazing, at some point I will scan some photos in. They are huge but so graceful when they move that they leave hardly any trail through the jungle. The babies are obviously the cutest babies ever, apart from my own!!However, scarry too…one silver back got annoyed by how close we were and stood up to yell at us…they are huge and fierce…incredibly powerful. That is why you have to go with an armed gaurd to scare them with his gun if they get offended.

Sadly they are also the most hunted and depleting rapidly. Africa is in such turmoil that they are not safe. They are howvevr protected now and tourists paying to track them, sometimes without even seeing one gorilla!! is providing needed funds for armed protection.

I see you’re from portsmouth, my sister used to live in Southsea and now lives in Denmead…I now live in Australia…sadly no gorillas here!! But some amazing other wildlife to enjoy and be amazed by.

Karen
