Worth visiting!

A review of this place: My Impressions of the North Carolina State Capitol

After dropping the co-workers off at the airport I decided to do a little bit of sightseeing in Raleigh before heading out to D8’s place. I drove up to the Capitol Building for a look around.

It is a beautiful place. I must admit though, the building itself is much smaller than I had anticipated. It is no longer used as a meeting place for the state legislature. There are a handful of offices inside, but most of the building is used more or less as a museum.

There were a few groups of elementary school children who were touring the building at the same time that I was there. I stood within earshot of their guides and listened in on some of the information. I was impressed with the passion that one guide in particular had. I heard him tell the children a story about some of the ghosts which had been seen in the building. He said that he had never actually seen a ghost, but that he was in a room when the door mysteriously closed by itself.

The grounds outside of the Captiol had a number of statues. There was one depicting the three US presidents who came originally from North Carolina, and many honoring soldiers who gave their lives for the Confederate States of America.

What do the judges say?

The decision of the judges is final.

One way to solve this once and for all would be to head on down to South Carolina and see if they have AJ’s statue in front of their capitol.

Of course that wouldn’t be good at all, because if they did, it wouldn’t solve anything.

It’s possible that he was born in South Carolina and that he might have made the long migration to North Carolina and spent a lot of time there so as to be claimed by both.

If all else fails we can always Google him.

Which AJ are you talking about anyway?

My Hometown in MI was named for him

I was referring to Andrew Jackson. From Wiki:
Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829–1837). He was also military governor of Florida (1821), commander of the American forces at the Battle of New Orleans (1815), a founder of the modern Democratic Party, and the eponym of the era of Jacksonian democracy. He was a polarizing figure who dominated American politics in the 1820s and 1830s. Nicknamed “Old Hickory” because he was renowned for his toughness, Jackson was the first President primarily associated with the frontier (although born in South Carolina, he based his career in Tennessee).

One thing we all have to remember. When Jackson was born, there was no division between North and South. It was just called the Carolinas. I did know that he was born in the Waxham, which must geographically fall in what is now South Carolina..
