Worth visiting!
Ahh, The Ten Bells!
Most of Jack the Rippers victims patronised The Ten Bells
A nice pub, not in the safest part of London though.

I’ve never made it out to Whitechapel. I enjoy a good mystery. I have been thinking that a Jack the Ripper tour would be quite interesting.
I do understand though that Whitechapel is kind of a tough neighborhood.

LOL, nope I wouldn’t call Whitechapel safe. My husband is from Tooting which isn’t exactly the safest area and even he gets nervous in Tower Hamlets. It has a large Bangladeshi population and high rates of crime. I think my husband said that he learned in his Nursing course that Tower Hamlets has the highest murder rate! Something along those lines at least.
Tower Hamlets is the secondmost deprived borough in London and has one of the highest unemployment rates, high rates of arson, and anti-social behavior in general. So basically, a yucky place to be traveling at night or alone.
The Jack the Ripper tour was awesome though. Our guide was a woman who’s been researching the murders over 20 years and she let us in on some of her theories about what happened. She thinks there’s more than ONE murderer… that someone maybe was working as a lookout or such. She showed us places where the crimes actually happened and showed us photographs of the crime. It was very education. She’s going to be publishing a book on it soon. She said she just needs to go to South Africa first to follow up on one of the suspects anscestors and interview them or such.
There are just so many things you can learn from the walk and it’s great becasue stories and TV have completely blown him and his murders out of proportion. He only murdered five women and it may have been personal. A couple of the women were severe alcoholics who had been outcast from their husbands and families becuase of their problem with the demon drink. So, they went from being wealthy/well off class to down and out poor living off the streets working as prostitutes.
After the walk, I saw a book on Jack the Ripper Walk in a shop so I bought it (was only a couple pounds). That way I can keep fresh in my memory all the facts of the case and the places I went on the walk.
Next time you’re in London I would definnitely recommend you do this walk through The Original London Ghost Walk as they are EXCELLENT!
They’re ghost walk was good too.
I love doing walks because they’re a fun way to learn about historical events and such and to really learn about an area. I did some excellent walks in Edinburgh. You really do learn so much from them.

the tour guide stopped on a section of the walk and told us to look up at one of these old crumbling buildings of flats. She said that one had just sold and guess how much for. My husband said, OVER A MILLION becuase he knows the ridiculous prices people will pay for flats in London and he was RIGHT. This complete piece of shite crumbling old building had sold for over a million pounds due to being one of the oldest buildings in the area I think they said. I just couldn’t believe it. Think of what you can get here in The States for that kind of money.
What kind of a fool would want to pay that much to live in a shite little flat that’s connected to a bunch of others and has crumbling old walls, horrible plumbing no doubt (which is a must have in the UK LOL), is probably haunted being it’s so old, and is in a crime filled neighborhood?
There are so many better ways to spend money!
