It’s a shame you feel that way Morag. I have only lived here for four years and have found it difficult to make friends outside of work. People are quite insular here and resentful of Glasgow/Edinburgh (which I can understand). I’m originally from Edinburgh and miss it very much. However, you can’t compare the two and Aberdeen has it’s own charm. I certainly believe that Aberdeen has not done enough to make itself more attractive to visitors (or to the people that live here for that matter). With the wealth that is here from the oil industry, it is disappointing that they didn’t have the vision 40 years ago to make Aberdeen a much more vibrant and cultural city. That said, it is up to the people who live here to make a difference too. If we don’t like where we live, we have a responsibility to change it for the better.
