I don’t know anything about India, expept for a friend who temporarily in New Delhi. Still ND did’t seem convincing, so we decided to spend some time in Goa first. Do you think there’s a way of avoiding diarhea, smog et al if we spend most of our time in Goa? Any suggestion for accomodations?
Any tips for NYE celebration in Goa?

I had prepared survival kit before I depart from my country.I first read health part of lonely planet book and list all pharmanautical at the book with their usage. Then go to drugstore amd discuss with pharmanautacalist.Eliminate some of them. Then ı reduce the quantity of medicals that ı buy.
I want to note another point there is risk of being accused by custom officer at airport for drug dealing.Allthough ı do not have any problem at customs, there is possibility to face such problem.
So it is better to search which drugs are allowed to enter india without prescription.Or you can go go doctor to have a prescription of drugs that you will buy. With prescription , ı think there should not be any problem.
After ı went there ,ı understand it is logical to have your drug kit ,because modern hospital facilities is very far avay from backpacker hotel places located at poor people region of cities.
For avoiding dierha, I did not order salad, including quality places.
I compensate vegetable need by peeling fruits that ı buy. When washing fruit ı used packaged bottle water .Also eating vegeterian food with overspice can prevent.Because as far as ı understand overspice not only work taste also preventing microbes.
I eat at places where local woman eats.
From street ı did not eat anything except fruits.
I used tap water just cleaning my face and shower. At the end ı did not have any problem of dierha.
İt seems ı overcontrol myself but ı have to prevent any risk as ı was alone during my trip.
Start of my trip was new delhi ,and it was terribly chaotic city for me as ı was new to india. The city was very big and it is not efficient to get around. So it is more feasible to go smaller cities with more attraction density.By this way, you do not get terrified by trafic to go highlights of a city.
Goa can be good start to india as it is most modern place in india.I recommend to go goa by plain ( home country -MUMBAİ-GOA),or ( home country-goa )
.And do not do a mistake first go mumbai, stay there 1 night, then go madgaon by train.Because mumbai is very terrific and expensive place and you should stay at pension with a minumum 10 dolar and you will give 10 dolar for taxi to transport yourself from airport to colaba area (backpacker area of mumbai ) .For train you will give another 20 dolaR.Totally you will spend 40 dolar for madgaon-mumbai connection.İnstead you can give 50 dolar more.By 90 dolar you can directly fly to madgaon.
For accodomation ı avoid to go anjuna as it is popular for techno party tourism.
İnstead ı went benaulim, palolem, om beach.
Benaulim is very silent place ideal for lovers and retired people.İt is near to main cities.
Before I went Palolem ı am sceptic about it, as it is written as a popular tourist spot.Bu after ı went there , ı see there is no need to worry, because the place is not scrap of building as the accodomation places are built as wooden huts.
the beach was very cool, people are nice , accodomation is around 5 dolar and the place ı stayed 200 meter to sea.The restaurants offer wide variety of super delicious sea food relatively more expensive prices regarding india. The river at the end of beach was realy magic.İt was like a land borrowed from heaven.
OM beach was apart from residential areas, and located at holy place named gokarna.İt is relaxing spirutual place. There is nearly 20 place located at beach.Place owners build music system all over this place. And some nights there is techno party at one place and you can hear music at your bed. Some nights local people and travellers gather at sea make their own music , this time there is no sound at spaekers located at beach.places are at a price 5 dolar for single.Foods are nice.Techno party and music was very cool as the people at beach prepare their musiclist. The party was not commercial party.
Near this beach there is paradise beach. The place is not paradise as its name offers.
This is end of my recommendation. At the end ı want to note that prices can change due to demand.I went there last march. At high seasons such as new year, festivals price can increase.

Macahael,
thanks for all this extensive advice. We were going to do an overnight train from Mumbai, but now that you advise against it, we’ll take the plane. I don’t mean to bombard you with questions, but if you happen to know a good place to do Kundalini yoga or Ayurvedic healing, please pass it on.
Many many thanks,

Dear Kitja ,
I do not have any experience on Kundalini yoga or Ayurvedic healing, but as far as ı understand, there is a fake health industry mainly located at tourist site.People on seaside apply ayurvedic massage, but ı think this ,is not healthy ,as they are not trained and do this for increasing their profit. So it will be wiser to search before going there.Thorntree at lonely planet site may help to have first hand advice.
Also please note that if you go to smaller ,non tourist places ,chances of getting real experience of kundalini yoga, ayurvedic healing will be higher ..
