Worth visiting!

A review of this place

Barely worth attending…

To be perfectly honest, it’s a “Loser’s Mt. Rushmore”.

The hike is barely worthy of being called a hike, and the view is mediocre at best. Sitting in the field at looking at the hulking rock is easily the most enjoyable part, though the carving mars the beauty somewhat.

I’ll say it’s worth visitting because I hear the laser shows are incredible, though I was unable to see one. Watch a laser show – otherwise, not worth it.

Not much appreciation for American History Huh?

Not sure how a carving, funded by the KKK in the nineteen twenties, imagined as an “explicitly Confederate memorial” by the KKK themselves, and finished in the seventies constitutes American history.

As A Tribute to the soldiers...not the

It is unfortunate that there is the KKK tie-in. There is no argument there. However, yes it is an explicitly Confederate memorial. Are you then saying that nothing the Confederacy stood for and many of these soldiers died for is worth considering. That none of the southern soldiers ideals and actions are worth while or should be remembered?

Certainly the soldiers should be remembered.

But, when it comes right down to it, the entire place was originally funded by the KKK. Do you really think they were trying to honor the dead with their monument to the Confederacy? They were simply trying to elevate their own ideals – evil, misguided ideals at the very best. I would never even consider paying my respect to a place with such monstrous roots.

Well, it seems that we won’t find too much agreement on this aside from the
fact that the kkk is truly a scourge on our history and country.

As time has gone by the emphasis has moved to the tribute to the soldiers
and from the genocidal ideas of the kkk. Hopefully we can all learn and grow from whatever we take away from Stone mountain.
