Not worth it!

okay, i was here  — 1 year ago

i had no choice… we went here to get on a cruise ship headed for Alaska… i was excited of course bc i had never been to canada… we watched a rather good fireworks display but when we went to chinatown up there… we were treated awful. we went to a chinese restraunt and were the only whites there at the time… we ordered our food and had to ask twice for MY food (which was just chicken and rice) to come out. it tasted and looked like they gave me food that had been sitting there for the longest time… (yeah i know this is in chinatown but the point that it was in vancouver, canada made me never want to go back there… sucks for me bc i’ll end up back there this year for when i take the cruise ship again. this time starting in seward, alaska and ending in vancouver) anyway as i was saying… i got up to go to the restroom and mind you the whole time we’re sitting there, these chinese sitting next to us were giving all of us(my family) looks… well, you know how we simply go between chairs when we need to get through quicker to get to the bathroom? this damnable chinese guy (givin us the looks) pushes his chair out and says something in chinese (i would assume he meant go completely around all the tables) i was furious… after we ate, and got our check, they hovered all around us and watched our every move… i was so angry that i showed my frustration and threw two pennies on the table deliberately and purposely for that stupid waiter to see… then he had the audasity to ask if everything was alright… of course my dad said yes and i sat there fuming… we finally left and hated my dad for giving them a good tip or any tip at all and said we are to never go back there again… that is why i hate it in vancouver, canada… and would recommend you never go unless your up for ignorant assholes… we have enough of those in the states.

Oookay...

So you got treated badly at ONE restaurant and that’s justification for hating the entire city??? What about everything else? For god’s sake, this is a restaurant review, not a travel destination review! Btw, you don’t eat in Chinatown for the gourmet food, you go there because it’s cheap… or did you not notice how impoverished the area is?

You should also understand that when you go into a place like Chinatown, people will look at you because they’re curious. If there was any unkind treatment, it was probably because YOU made an assumption about them and were glaring back at them and giving off hateful vibes with your body language and tone of voice. In social psych terms, it’s called a “self-fulfilling prophecy.” You should look it up sometime, it will change the way you interact with others.

When my boyfriend and his best friend, both over six feet tall, blond-haired and blue-eyed Scandinavians, traveled through Asia, people stared at them every second of every day. At restaurants, waitresses wouldn’t leave their table, they’d just stand there and watch them. Not because the waitresses were suspicious or meant them any harm, but because they were just CURIOUS. Then again, Europeans tend to be far less ignorant about cultural differences than Americans…

BTW, I looked at your profile, and I see that you haven’t done much traveling outside of North America? I hope you’ll be a little more open-minded in your future travels.
