Not worth visiting!

A review of this place: Weather, Locals, Drunks, not the best time

Out of all the european cities I’ve visited, Cork ranks lowest on the list. Part of this may have had to do with the weather…atrocious winds and rain, but also that a friend of mine was nearly sexually assaulted by a drunken local. That put a damper on the night.
We had a nice time in the pubs we visited, and it was enjoyable taking a bus to Blarney Castle, but Cork wasn’t as exciting as we had hoped it to be. We visited in November, not the best month to visit as most tourist sites were closed for the off season. Additionally, our hostel was the worst accomodation-wise we’ve stayed at. The Kinlay house…beds were terribly uncomfortable, and a group of high school aged students kept everyone up until 3 or 4 each night, and the workers on duty did nothing until someone complained. MAybe it was a string of unlucky happenings, but this was not our favorite stop. We wouldn’t visit again. Killarney is a different story though.

Comments:

I loved Cork. Both the city, and it’s little seaside villages.

“nearly sexually assaulted”

Can you get a little bit pregnant?

“the workers on duty did nothing until someone complained”

So, in other words, they did something?

She would have been assaulted had a friend not stepped in to push the man away.

The comparison to pregnancy is…a poor one at best. Maybe you define sexual assault differently than the rest of us..

The workers at the hostel were too lazy to do anything and ignored the fact that people were screaming and raising hell at 3am. Only because we got out of bed to complain was something done about it. It was simply the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Period. Once again, it could have been a coincidental happening. Maybe NOT.

I’m sure the city would be much more pleasant at a different time of year, and it’s fully possible that it was a string of bad luck. (As I had said in my original post.) However, I’d probably never travel there again, save to experience the famous jazz festival.

It was the worst traveling weekend I've experienced. After 15 countries traveled, and having lived in Europe for a while, that's my experience. Hence, one of the points of this site...to share your experience of travel to different places. Do you respond to everyone who had a negative experience in your hometown? I'm curious.
