I wasn’t in Chicago long to be able to eat at all the restaurants (Chicago has many!), but here’s what I do know of…some I can vouch for, others are Chicago classics:
Pizza: Try Deep Dish (a chicago invention) at the original
Gino’s East (633 N Wells St) make sure you go to the one on Wells because everyone brags that they’re the ‘original’ deep dish…

If you’re looking for a good Chicago stuffed pizza experience, try out Chicago’s Pizza. I find that their stuffed is the best I’ve ever had. Check out their website at: www.chicagos-pizza.com. They have three different locations. :)

Ooh … thank you for the link! Can I ask how I can find out what neighborhood(s) we’ll be in? We’ll be staying at the Hyatt McCormick Place and hitting all the major touristy stuff like the Art Museum and Science Museum….

Hyatt McCormick – Ah, you’ll actually be in Bridgeport, very close to Chinatown. If you’re into chinese decorations, knick-knacks and dim sum…they’re at very cheap prices there (compared to downtown Chicago).
Little Italy, Greektown and Jew town are another great collection of restaurants…..it’s about 5 minutes west from your hotel.
As for the museum area, just select “CITY DOWNTOWN” on the Web site. Downtown especially has many restaurants to choose from.
There are also restaurants w/ great views from the top of the Sears tower and John Hancock building….oh and also on the boats off of Navy Pier.

I wish I could remember the name of this place. They had live flamenco shows in the cellar space.
Above, the cuisine was excellent.
I recall that it was on Lincoln Avenue or somewhere in the near North Side.

no idea. I ate a lot of hot dogs when I was there. Oh, there’s this super wicked awesome place called Carmine’s we went to once. VERY expensive but ultra good too.

Gino’s East or Uno’s for pizza, definitely. And the Walnut Room at Marshall Fields is good for a fancy dinner. Try Ed Dabevich’s for a really fun dining experience, as long as you have a sense of humor. And Alladin’s off Diversey Ave. is really yummy.

If you are looking for good food in Chicago other than pizza, go to the pick me up, at Clark and Roscoe. Or inother words, take the redline train to Belmont, walk down Belmont to Clark and take a left, walk past the Irish bar under the train tracks. If you reach Newport you’ve gone to far. From there you can walk to Wrigley field, check out lots of bars, straight, gay, punk, mixed, reggea what ever.They are an all night breakfast kind of place and have a great ecclectic atmosphere. Another great place to visit would be A La Turka. It has great atmosphere and they have live belly dancing on certain nights—the belly dancers are fun and dance with the patrons, etc. It’s a cozy place and you feel like you’re part of one big party. Oh, and I liked the food too. :)

Definitely Lula Cafe in Logan Square. It is accessible by public transit (Blue Line – Logan Square exit)
The atmosphere is very laid-back and cool, and the food is amazing.

The Grand Lux Cafe on Michigan Ave. is by far the best restaurant I have EVER eaten at! Everything I go to Chicago I am sure to go there. The food is amazing, huge portions at a totally afforable price. It is a total must while you’re in the city.

Must eat at the Berghoff… Chicago tradition and it’s going to close in February!
Also must eat at Italian Village. Another fine Chicago tradition.

You have to try Cafe Iberico. It’s a Spanish restaurant with excellent tapas and the sangria is to die for!! Expect to wait in a longline on the weekends for it gets crowded, but it’s definitely worth the wait. A great place to mingle with the locals and my favorite restaurant! I just left Chicago a few days ago and it was the first stop I made after I got off my plane at O’Hare. It’s a block from Fogo de Chao and from Rock n’ Roll McDonalds.
