Eger is a very small (but attractive) town that is famous for its vinyards. Eger produces Egri Bikaver Wine- literally translated as ‘Bulls Blood’.

Bikaver is a strong red wine, commonly known by the cheap imports that are sent to Europe & North America (3.50 EUR a bottle in Holland). There are many good Bikaver wines, but you will only find them in Hungary.

If you are in Budapest, Eger is a nice day-trip- but you will probably run out of things to do if you spend too much time there. If you are healthy, don’t forget to visit the Turkish minaret in the centre of the city- watch out for the steep stairs.
