How did I ever come to choose food over opera? In 1976, while on a choir tour, I was lured away from the opera (lifelong passion number one) by a soprano friend, who convinced me to go instead to a Turkish restaurant she had visited a few years prior while backpacking in Europe. The meal and companionship were wonderful … but … what I missed was a production of Richard Strauss´s Der Rosenkavalier, (now one of my favorite operas) at the Vienna State Opera where it had it´s premiere. Das sigh! I do hope you get to waltz in Vienna someday.
