Nikko is a great place to go if you wanna see some nice temples and can`t make it to Kyoto. It is a very old town in the mountains, and if you wanna see some Japanese culture and also are very interested in nature, then this is the place for you. You can take the bus to the top of the mountain, and there you can not only see great views, but also go to an onsen or have a walk to the waterfall or the big lake. If you have more time you might wanna try the long but pathed walk through the countryside there. If you are lucky, then you will also spot many monkeys around the mountain and town itself. Winter is also a great time to go if the sun is shining as not so many people and the falls especially look amazing with the huge icicles:)
