Thank you for your response, ehsan.
I think I can understand your point of view. After all, isnt’ it rather patronizing or paternal for our country to tell you that you all can’t develop the technology when we have?
But you see, many people do not want a proliferation of destructive nuclear power. Can you understand that?
Do you think that maybe we can engage in some mutual disarmament? Of course, this would have to include all the nuclear powers. That would take some doing, insh’Allah.

do you feel threatned that Iran is developing nuclear power?
wasnt it the american and british government that went into iraq under the WOT (war on terror) act. iraq was holding wepons of mass destruction? did anyone find any?
islam has nothing to with this but it will feel the reverberations, its the fact that countries that have supreme powers feel scared and threatened by other countries that are developing… have you not watched Bowling for columbine?
ps i dont want to have offeneded anyone on what i have said, but we live in a world where fear is driven by fear, and the root of all fear is in the hands of the powers that be. sorry

I can kind of understand where you’re coming from Ehsan, but if all Iran wants is civilian nuclear technology, then why won’t it co-operate with the united nations? Weapons inspectors have recently been expelled… do you think the Iranian government would do something that extreme if it had nothing to hide? It makes complete sense for them to have nuclear weapons, they would be able to politically control most of the middle east if they did, put strict trade tariffs on exports from all countries, etc, in order to generate revenue to fund further project expansion… It will have as much of a negative impact on countries like Syria and Saudi Arabia as it will on Israel, if not more, which is why I do not understand when islamic people who identify with this region have a relaxed feeling towards this… It’ll screw everyone and corrupt Iran even further, in fact the people who will suffer most from the repercussions of something like this will be islamic people…
The obvious reason Iran is doing this now is because most of the western world is pre-occupied with this moronic interference with Iraqi affairs. If they pull out of Iraq in order to gain the manpower to facilitate a war on Iran, it proves their point and the islamic world will have an even poorer opinion of the west, perpetuating fears of terrorism, etc, plus it would be an internal political disaster for the US and many other countries… if they stay there, they can do whatever they want. It’s a win-win situation for Iran at the moment, and it doesn’t make sense to me why they wouldn’t be interested in developing weapons.
From what I’ve come to beleive, Iran does not economically depend on the US much at all, my understanding is that Iran has some fairly isolationist tendancies in the case of it’s economy… It’s not like the US is selling energy to Iran, that would be logistically impossible. Also, Iran has some of the largest fossil fuel reserves in the world, so as long as they disregard the obvious environmental problems, they should have more than enough resources to provide cheap power for a very long time.
Sorry to get all political :)... I’m not sure what the Iranian media tells its citizens or what part the government plays in that, but I think it’s important for people to have an understanding of what’s going on. Please don’t take offense or anything.
Aside from that… Iran seems like a fascinating place, amazing culture and history… What is it like to live in a place like that? Does the political climate have much of an impact on your life?

An an Iranian, I would never trust this government! They ripped the people off right after the revolution to get the power and now are trying to do the same to the world. HOW STUPID!

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Tuesday that Iran has successfully enriched uranium.
“Iran has joined countries with nuclear technology,” he said.
The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran stop all uranium enrichment activity by April 28. Iran has rejected the demand, saying it has a right to develop the process.
The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, is due in Iran this week for talks to try to resolve the standoff.
Iran’s nuclear chief, Vice President Gholamreza Aghazadeh, said Iran has produced 110 tons of uranium gas, the feedstock for enrichment.
The amount is nearly twice the 60 tons of uranium hexaflouride, or UF-6, gas that Iran said last year that it had produced

Since 1947, the US has intervened many times in the Middle East region and other regions (particularly in the developing world), and its own actions in the past (e.g. funding and arming the Taliban extremists to fight the Soviets) have caused the current situation in the middle east. Anyways, I’m getting off topic here.
Basically, the way I see it, with the Taliban and Saddam regimes collapsing, Iran already got a lot of power (those were its two major enemies in the ME). Now, all the US needs is a nuclear Iran. Regardless of whether they make bombs or not, the Islamic Republic’s increased influence would threaten the United States’ interests in the region (including energy reserves). This is exactly why they are opposing it altogether.
I sincerely believe that the only solution the the current situation is nuclear disarmament of the whole world (including the US and Israel).
I hope I didn’t offend any fellow Americans but it’s unfortunately the very outcome of US’ foreign policy since the Second World War… and I would recommend you to read this book called “The Age of War: The United States Confronts the World.” It’s a very interesting book, which gives you the historical context of what’s behind the current situation in the world affairs.
