Worth visiting!

ok, can somebody please explain to me wtf just happened...

I went to Jackson Heights on the way home from the Hall of Science on the 7 train in the hope of getting some Indian food for ‘lunch’ (defined by the fact that it was the second meal of the day, not because it was at 5-6pm), and I saw spanish restaurants, chinese restaurants, Thai restaurants, Vietnamese restaurants, Malaysian restaurants… everything but Indian restaurants. Then we walked for a while in the direction of Elmhurst, and everything was chinese restaurants, we walked back to the Jackson Heights station on the 7 train, and gave up and had spanish/hispanic/central american/latin american/whatever you want to call it food. It was fantastic food, cheap, the staff were all beautiful, and I think I was the only anglo in there lol. Oh and the guava juice was possibly the best I have ever had.

But despite this, could someone tell me where you go to get actual Indian food in Jackson Heights (coming from the 7 train)? Is it just a myth that Jackson Heights has good Indian food?

edit: Looking at this site, I think maybe I should have gotten off at the 74th street stop, rather than the 82nd. That Anand Bhavan place someone’s posted looks good, mmm masala dosa and thali, yum :P I wish I’d come to the faithful 43places before going out. Oh well, at least I had an adventure :)

Yes!

Yea 74th Street has all the Indian food. Oh so good! you should also check out some of the shops on 74th. This particular one has really cool ceramics, statues and other stuff to buy, but you can also go just to check them out, cuz they are amazingly beautiful!

thankyou! i’ll go back some time when i have time. Maybe the next time I go to a mets game, since it’s on the way to shea.

now that i look at the subway map, 82nd street is called Jackson Heights, and 74th street isn’t, now I know why I got it wrong. damn subway map :P

ok, I went back, this time to 74th street, and the food was great. I went to where Anand Bhavan was supposed to be, and it wasn’t, but there was another vegetarian dosa place that seemed to have good reviews and things, but my friend was having lamb cravings, so we ended up at a place on 74th street called Taj something, or something Taj, and it had both great lamb and great dosas. and the samosas and pakoras were good too. and the mango shakes. we took about 2/3 of it home and had the rest for dinner. great :) i also had a look at the shops along 74th street, mostly the clothes and music, but i was too shy to go in. i felt like too much of a tourist.
