Worth visiting!
Just picked up my tickets for the nutcracker and the magic flute
woohoo!
I’m going on my own, since it’s hard to get people to go to the ballet and the opera, especially without my mum here.

I’ve been to a few ballets, but hardly any opera, and none with proper costumes.

In my case, a lot of people seem to be interested in a student discount price opera, but none would actually make it to Lincoln Center in the morning to buy the tickets…
I wish I had taken advantage of that more when I was a student, but I couldn’t really get up before 2pm back then…

I can’t get up before 2pm either. I also forgot my student card. It wasn’t too expensive though, I just think I’ll be so far back I’ll get altitude sickness.

I saw a good number of operas at the New York City Opera, by joining their “Big Deal” membership program. It’s available for ‘young’ people, that is people under 40, and you are able to buy orchestra tickets for cheap. There are some restrictions, like I think you can only purchase one week in advance, but they give you the best available seats for the performance. Also, they put on two cocktail parties for the members.
Since most operas are not new, they repeat the same performances every year or two. So if you go for a couple years, you can manage to see most all of the popular operas.
The New York City Opera is much cheaper than the Metropolitan Opera, but they still usually have excellent sets and good performers.

I’ll look into it when I get the chance. The magic flute was good btw.
