Gran Café Tortoni

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: “The routines of tourism are even more monotonous than those of daily life.”  — 1 year ago

We follow all sorts of guide book to this cafe… book tango show in advance… line up before it starts… order some average drink/food… take pictures… Whether we understand Spanish or not, we decide that 30 pesos entrance fee for a good-looking show is reasonable. Of course it seems pretty damn touristy, but we’re touring this city after all.

While we were waiting outside the cafe for the show ( the cafe is a tourist attraction even without the tango show ), some local guys tried to convince us that the tango is “classic” and “boring” and not for young people, and that we should go with them to clubbing instead…

The analogy of Beijing Opera he used was indeed convincing, but we’re stubborn with our touristy routine….
