Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

I’m partially Taiwanese (but I know no Taiwanese, and I just started taking Mandarin Chinese at school), so when I was younger we’d visit my relatives a lot. It’s getting harder to now that I’m in high school, and especially with all the shit going on – my grandfather tries to make me get a (fake) Taiwanese passport every time I go, haha! – but being there is just amazing. The people, the culture, the food… amazing.

The thing about being partially Taiwanese is that everyone always asks me what I feel about the Taiwan/China conflict (or the current president – DICKSUCK), and that can go ON and ON and ON.

Anyway, the betel beauties or whatever they call them … they get a LOTTA shit, but you know, betel girls are people just like all of us; it might look sketchy to go up to talk to them but some of the most amazing convos I had were with betel girls. Not that they were very deep convos since I’m still learning Mandarin (and I’m even farther behind in Taiwanese, lol) but definitely fun!

nm to say huh

I was just reading your entry and it reminded me a lot about my trips there. I’m part Taiwanese too, but I know maybe one word of Taiwanese and minimal mandarin. My grandparents would get on my mom’s case a lot about not teaching us chinese…blah blah blah. Oh well. Just felt like commenting.

haha, wow

I JUST saw that you commented! that’s SO RAD, man. I know NOBODY who’s part (as opposed to full) Taiwanese like I am, which is REALLY STRANGE since there’re a lotta Taiwanese and halfies where I grew up – but there ya go! so that’s pretty much awesome. GO US!!

I wish I knew more Taiwanese and Mandarin, but I just don’t have TIME anymore, yanno? it’s funny cause I only know one or two words of Taiwanese but in language class I keep on using it anyway -

teacher: zhe ge zi zen me xie?
me: N’ZA!! Wait…

haha, your grandfather sounds funny – do you plan to learn mandarin or taiwanese? they’re really cool languages, man! I’m actually soooo glad that I decided to learn mandarin. it’s really fun!

so anyway, I guess … just thanks for commenting, thanks for being a voice in the void. and keep on ROCKIN’. love!

GO US! :)

I was planning on taking mandarin if I happened to go to a college that taught it…it’s not really a top priority for me though, even if it’s a bit sad I can’t even talk to my own grandparents!

That’s pretty cool that you’re learning mandarin though – my relatives keep telling me how useful it’s going to be in the future if I learn chinese because america does trade with china and such. Ah, well.

No problem about the comment – I actually forgot all about this post. I rarely log on anymore. But thanks for commenting back on my comment!
