Worth visiting!

One of only 2 buildings saved from the 1893 Columbian Exposition

An octagonal building brought from Chicago back to Maine after the World’s Fair and reassembled as a museum. Definitely worth checking out although the “collection” is an assortment of strange things collected by the family who presided over the Inn at Poland Spring, some random golf related memorabilia and a room of items from the World’s Fair. The Executive Director is a trip all by himself – try to get the private tour – he is extremely enthusiastic.

It would be a shame...

if the 1893 Columbian Exposition were to disappear from the landmark landscape.

I know you are teasing me Toddie!

But…the Columbian Exposition was also known as the Chicago World’s Fair. Only 4 buildings from that time are still in existence – this one, the Norway Pavilion and what is now the Field Museum and part of the Art Institute of Chicago!

The Columbian Exposition is fascinating. Have you read The Devil in the White City? I recommend it without reservation. It is the non-fictional account of that fair along with a crazy serial killer – who knew?
