I absolutely adore Portland. I’ve only been there twice, but my husband (who is from Beaverton) and I plan on moving there the second we finish college. I honestly don’t know how this place is so magical, but the moment I stepped off the plane the first time I went there I was in love. And how could I not be? It’s so green there, the weather is amazing, the scenery is gorgeous, and the city is truly spectacular (if you know your way around). Powell’s Books is fantastic…who wouldn’t love getting lost in four stories of books? And dessert at Papa Haydn’s is possibly the most delectable thing I have ever tasted. I could go on and on, but everyone gets the idea (forgive my use of synonomous adjectives…). I can’t wait to get back there for good.

Malevolent Oregon

Well let’s see, how many people have become stranded or died or lost in Oregon? There was record rainfall in November, somewhere around 15 inches give or take a few dumptruck fulls.

It is COLD and WET and MISERABLE and MUDDY and MISERABLE and DARK and GRAY and DEPRESSING and MISERABLE in this part of the world. Beautiful? Where? When? For that 1-2 weeks where it stops being gray, the sun comes out but before it becomes 100 degrees?

Of course it’s green, there’s algae everywhere including on buildings and probably on people. It’s green because you’re in the middle of a rainforest and mother nature shows herself at her malevolent best.

Seen the 80 MPH winds and blizzard conditions on Mt Hood? Seen the sun lately? Gotten lost in the woods and can’t find your way out lately?

Didn’t think so.

There is a reason Oregon is so large but contains so few people. It actually feels malevolent but that could just be the constant rain and constantly gray skies.

what a charmer!

i can’t believe i’m actually responding to this…

how many people have become stranded or died or lost anywhere? choose any mountain range, any desert, even any city and there are probably a few people.

i’m from southern california. the sun is ever-present. frankly, i love the rain. that’s not saying i’ve ever experienced rain pouring 15 inches a month, 9 months out of the year, but i’m also not saying i would have a problem with it.

the rest of your comment doesn’t really matter, since i was talking about portland anyway, not mt. hood or the woods – which could very well be “malevolent” but that’s not the point.

lol...

Oh wow. This was a while ago, but I just saw it. Whoever that was, at least they made me laugh… I mean, how ridiculous! From the looks of things, it appears they created an account specifically to make that comment and then scurried off into the darkness.

Anyway, we need to rent The Holiday soon!
