There’s lots to see. I would try to take a side trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.

Just enjoy Delhi and take in the “ambiance!”

Goa is the best for Christmas.

As for where to go and what to do, check out www.indiatravelogue.com

Arhus,

I was raised in Delhi and I can give you details about Delhi..Depending on your length of stay, you can do a lot within 200 km radius of Delhi. As Youngstown said, you can go to Agra. Or you can enjoy the heritage of Inida in the state of Rajasthan. You can visit palaces in the cities of Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhour.
In delhi, you can enjoy hussle and bussle by hopping around the areas of South Delhi: Hauz Khas, South Extension, Greater Kailash M block Market, Delhi Haat (near Safdar jung Airport), Qutab Enclave (near Qutab Minar), South Extension, Cannaught Place. Or you can visit suburbs of delhi like Gurgaon. In Gurgaon there are several malls where you see young crowd in jazzy clothes..Ask you auto to take you to DT mall in Gurgaon…

If you are interested in visiting hills, I can recommend you some hill stations too..

let me know if you need more info..post your dates while you are in India and I can help you in planning your trip.

hard to find much in the way of ambiance in delhi
pushkar in rajasthan is great…i stayed 3 months there and made many friends
you take a bus/train to ajmer then take another bus from the little bus station there to pushkar…there will most likely be ‘tourist catchers’ there to meet you to take you to their hotel
there’s also jaisalmer where you can do a camel trek into the desert for days…amazing!
also, depending on how much time you have, further south from goa is gokarna which is a little less of the goa scene but still with some of that old goa charm…stay at one of the four beaches…not in the town itself

Delhi is a big city and like all big cities in the world you can’t have ‘fun’ unless you have a lot of money. I mean quite a lot if you want to go clubbing etc. or you know local middle class or upper middle class people.
I doubt you want to go to ‘snazzy’ opulent occidental capitalist malls.

Unless you want to ‘mix’ with the locals in Delhi. The kind you wont want to meet in your own country. But they wont be celebrating Christmas, as they would be Hindus or Muslims, some rare christians.

If you really want the Christian christmas thing, go to the beaches of Goa. (Coastal Goa is Christian) You will get midnight mass and all the backpackers with their christmas raves etc.
Or you can go to Agra, see the Taj Mahal by moonlight. It will be quite unchristmasly but then you are in India afterall.

Not sure what you mean by “where to stay over Christmas”. Christmas isn’t a big deal in India, so it’s not like lodging is going to be tight.

Any reason you picked Delhi? I didn’t spend much time there and so can’t say much about it. I enjoyed Hanuman’s Tomb and the Gurudwara Nanak Piao (Sikh temple).

I’m more of a small city person. So, if you are open to places besides Delhi, I’d highly recommend Udaipur and Pushkar. I’d go back to those cities in a heartbeat and easily stay put for weeks.

@pedalinfaith.. I think You mean Humayoon’s Tomb not Hanuman’s Tomb :)

Coming back to topic in Hand.. Everyone’s right, Xmas is not very big in North India.
If you want complete xmas holiday..Goa is the place, but you’ll have to book pretty fast..it generally gets pretty full.
Otherwise, Agra and Rajasthan suggested by everyone are pretty good options. Also, you would have weather advantages, Its winter time in India.
In Coastal areas, Goa, Kerala, Udupi and Gokarna tops the list.
And then there’s always Himalayas to visit for hill stations…
And if you need more info, post it here.. will be glad to answer
