"Fahey"

County Cork is the home of my ancestors. I heard they got in a lot of fights with their neighbors, religious disputes, as they were Protestants. Wonder if it’s true. People’s Republic of Cork

Could be true

My great grandfather was something minor like a verger in a protestant church in Cork. This would have been in early 1900’s. My grandmother used to tell stories about republican soldiers coming to the farm where they lived and taking away their guns.

Thanks for sharing that, Pamela

It must have been fascinating to listen to your grandmother’s stories. Any and all Cork stories are certainly welcome here!

They could be in the US

Yes, I was fascinated, but unfortunately, the details of the stories became lost in time. My grandmother died in 1993, aged, we think, 97. We don’t know for sure, because we never found her birth certificate. My late father was born in 1923, so she must have met my grandfather by then and moved to Plymouth in Devon, England, which is where my father was brought up – on a marines fort. The family later went to Birmingham in the UK. Others stayed in Ireland, but we also know that some emigrated to the US.

Rather unfair of me

to change my question while you were busy typing in a response. I wasn’t sure if you’d mind my asking about your family. I’m glad you responded. :)

LOL!

Yeah, I replied to the original version (I got by email), where you asked if my family was still in Cork. The fact is, I really don’t know and I want to research this myself some day, so it actually helps me think out loud while responding to you. I suppose there is also the VERY thin chance that someone will recognize the circumstances and “own” me. :)
