Hey, Calgary has some fantastic restaurants. I love(d) the Metropolitan Grill on 17th Ave SW (and 8th St). It’s a bit high class, but strangely not too expensive.
Another amazing place is Murrieta’s. It’s right downtown (8th Ave and 1st st). It’s nice, stylish and costs a fortune, but worth it.

The Murrieta’s here in Edmonton has the most amazing wine collection I’ve ever seen. You actually have to crane your neck, the wall of them is so high.

Another good Indian restaurant is Moti Mahal: 201-1805 14 Street SW.
If you’re looking for a good breakfast at a retro-style diner, try Galaxie Diner: 1411 11 Street SW
Good sushi can be found at Globe Fish & Izakaya: 326 14 Street NW
Earls is usually packed, so you might instead try Cactus Club: 7010 Macleod Trail SE
And if vegan and organic is your thing, try The Coup: 924 17 Avenue SW

Hey!
The best steak house in Calgary is Caesar’s Steak House & Lounge (512 4th Ave. SW, (403) 264-1222, http://www.calgaryplus.ca/portal/infosite/76600/1.html). Absolutely fabulous! Pricey, but worth it. I’ve never had a better filet mignon in my life!
If you’re thinking something a little less pricey, there’s a pretty cool brew pub called WildWood Brewing Company (2417 4th St. SW, (403) 228-0100, http://www.americascuisine.com/Calgary/WildWoodinfo.html). Upstairs is a little more upscale, but the downstairs has a cool pub atmosphere. Good beer and good food. Enjoy!
The picture, by the way, is from the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff. If you get a chance, definitely take a trip out there to ride the gondola and check out the amazing view!

If you want to try some nice Western fare, (ie. prime rib or some nice steaks), some decent places include Smuggler’s Inn (http://www.smugglers.ca/), Hy’s Steak House (http://www.hyssteakhouse.com/locations/index.html#calgary), and Mother Tucker’s has a nice prime rib and Sunday brunch buffet (might be other days too, not sure).
I second Earl’s, I find their food to be great quality if you’re looking for something a little on the cheaper side of nice.
If you’re into asian food, I really like Open Sesame, which is actually in the same building as Smuggler’s Inn. I think they still have a cheap tuesday night? $2 off or something. You can normally get a meal for <$10 CAD there.
