Cozumel

A question about this place:
Hey, What are the best dive sites in Cozumel? Also, I love diving, but will 3 days of diving on a 7 day vacation be too much? I don't want to keep seeing the same things. Thanks, P.  — 1 year ago

Hey, yeah it was a pretty okay place, i went on a cruise there so i did not see much. I accually went to the myan ruins, it was GREAT. You can take a tour from cozumel to their, its about an hour away. Absolutly gorgeous. theres alot of shopping areas in Cozumel but i don’t know what there is to do in the town other than that. I would highly recommend the ruins though :)

There isn’t much diving there. We went snorkeling and didn’t see much either.

There is a place, I can’t remember where it is. It is a popular place near the Cruise dock. Ask your concierge, they will probally know.

My boss is an avid diver and has been all over the world. He claims that Cozumel has some of the best diving, and his recommendation and comments lead me to believe that three days isn’t too much.

My experience there is snorkeling. The water is great and we were far from any reefs so the amount of sealife we saw probably paled in comparison to some of the spots in the area. I liked it and will go again when I’m in the area.

If you’re going to be there for 7 days, I would recomend going cave diving or snorkeling. I went through Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park, which offers both. To get there you have to take the ferry to Playa del Carmen, and then find a way a way to the caves which I recall being about an hour away. You can go by taxi, bus, or share ride van, depending on how much money you are willing to spend, share ride van being the cheapest, around $2 U.S. which is what our group did. It’s a little bit of a journey but entirely worth it. Plus you get to see more of the area and go into the jungle, which is pretty neat, except for the mosquitos. It ends up being taking most of a day, but still get back in time for dinner. Check out http://www.hiddenworlds.com.mx/
for more info.
Hope it helps. =) No matter where you go it will be awesome, Cozumel has great diving!

It depends on the VISIBILITY, as usual the best dives are going to be ones that you can both see on and control your movements. I dove with deep blue dive center (about 3 blocks from the town square, run by either an Aussie or an American and kind of worn out but inexpensive so as long as you are a strong diver, they’re the best)and they can tell you where the best spots for that day are. I would definately ask about the shipwreck, if that interests you, as well as some of the less turbulent wall dives -where I saw several rays and awesome baracuda. CIAO!

Three days is definitely not to much, if you love diving. There are enough dive spots to go to a new one every day for two weeks, and besides, diving is not just about seeing a new spot. Its about the fish, the feeling of being underwater, the whole gestalt! Cozumel has some of the best diving in the Western world. Period.

3 days sounds about right to me. I love diving/snokeling and thats what I did last time I was in the tropics.
