Worth visiting!

Should be Now

(I wrote, 9 weeks ago in 43T, and J. cheered me, bless her heart.)

Lived in Berlin in the early 80’s while the wall was still up. Spent a summer there in 1990, summer after the wall “came down” (plenty of it was still standing.)

All the musical excitement of the past year got me fired up. I wrote Heiner and told him I’d be coming this spring. Well, England wiped me out, and I never figured out how I was going to manage this. I wanted to work on some new songs with Heiner, now I can’t even remember what they might have been… and how would I juggle living there and here, jet over on weekends? And what about this house? Ah the fine fantasies one has in midwinter, when work is slow.
A fine muddle to be in…

Good for you!

I’ve never been to Vienna, but by all accounts it is a wonderful place. While there you must have afternoon coffee and cake at one of their famous coffeehouses.

Prague is fantastic – just beautiful! When I was there, very few Americans were there, but that has changed dramatically. You must drink the local beers. You must hang around in the old city, and go across the Charles bridge and up to the church above. Are you going alone? If so, see if you can hook up with any fellow travellers as Prague is a very musical, night-lifey city, and you’ll want to have company while carousing. Of course in the daytime there’s also Kafka’s house and such.

Berlin. Berlin is a real city and a big one, with something for everyone. There are some spectacular museums, and I, for one, would probably want to see the bust of Nefertiti. Potsdammer Platz has been all built up recently if you like hot new architecture. Berlin also has lovely parks, many along the banks of the Spree and its related lakes and canals. Bring your walking shoes and a good map, and take really long walks from one part of town to another. See if you can get some sort of a transit pass and ride around on the great transit system – taking busses to far flung destinations is a great way to see a lot of the City. Finally, remember that Berlin is an all night long city, but the trendy late night hangouts change every 6 months, so I can’t really help you there.

Keep me posted, look around on the internet (and so will I) to get started.
