That depends on your defnition of basic. Beach huts can range from little shacks made of straw on stilts with nothing but a bed and a lamp. Or you could stay in something made of brick, with an attached bath, which is also good. The availability depends on the beach you are planning to stay at and the season you are going in. By and large, I would reccommend something close to the beach.

These may seem too basic for u, but I’d recommend “Bhakti Kutir” or “Ciaran’s Camp” here which provide great (and affordable) living. You could do a search for both these n u’ll find tons of info and contacts.

We stayed in the basic ones tho – I even had an American friend along n he loved the experience!

BTW, Bourne Supremacy’s first scene was shot on this beach :)

Quick word of advice – do carry toilet paper and other toileteries if ur going to the simple ones :) but dont worry the loos and bathrooms are clean!

Ah yes.. the eternal quest for a beach hut. you could try Palolem (South Goa) a la Matt Damon in Bourne Supremacy. These are basically huts on the shore.
Basically South Goa is less crowded and cheaper. But cud lack action. If that’s what ur looking for head to North Goa (overcrowded yes, but action packed).
Try beaches like Candolim (i live there, yay), Anjuna, Vagator.
Avoid at all costs Calangute unless you want to feel like Mumbai in Goa.

We are veering towards Palolem baech, but when you say not action packed what do you mean? Is it easy to get around the various goan beaches? What else is a short journey away should we fancy a day trip?

Palolem (and much of South Goa) is not yet “commercialized” and doesn’t have hoardes of tourists – just beautiful beaches.

So chilling out = Palolem/South Goa
Partying/water sports = Baga/Anjuna etc.

Basically up North you’ll have a lot of touristy things going on and I’d recommend a good mix of both. All these beaches are easily coverable in a day. So you could be staying down South in a chilled out shack and get out in the day (or later for the nitelife) to Baga! Purrrfect.
