Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

Was the first time I went to this place…
I worked for WordPerfect Corporation at the time. I went with a small entourage, including Bruce. It was quite a few years ago:

This is what I remember:
we lost our luggage at the airport. That meant one more day in those horrid clothes I’d just lived in for who-remembers-how-long the flight was. But the next day, with my luggage back again safely, deliviered by the airport, things were looking better. I stayed in a very fancy tall hotel, hollow on the inside, like the marquis in New York, only nicer.

I saw very little of the city, I did go to parks in the morning and watched the serenity of the tai chi denizens (or whatever it was, I think I looked it up once, but don’t remember). I did order a suite from a tailor, but it fit horribly, and I threw it away. It was pure silk and beautiful wool.

I remember the food in the hotel, the “chinese cusine”, was impeccable and flavorful. I went to the Indian section, I also toured some mosques and temples. It was an amazing trip. I wonder if I took pictures? If so, I haven’t seen them in years.

I think the thing that sticks out in my mind was that park close to hotel. I felt a strange and desired essence in that place.

As far as I know

the Foreign Indian workers do not live in Little India, they just like to hang around the area where they have Indian food, Mustapha Plaza, Indian gold shops, internet and phone connections and all of their friends.

Little India is very near the CBD, estate prices are high in this area, the Foreign workers wouldn’t be able to afford staying there.

And I personally think it very kind of Singaporeans living in the area to tolerate this invasion of Foreign workers in their estate starting from around 7pm every evening till the wee hours of the morning. I guess they do understand the need of these men to be near their home away from home.

My hubby who has been to India finds Little India too clean to be real. Singaporeans however do find Little India a little dirty compared to the rest of the island and as In Style rightly commented, the Foreign workers do what they usually do back home and it takes time to correct their less desirable habits. And contrary to what the whole world thinks about Singapore and her strict laws and fines, these people have not been punished for making Little India more like India and less like Singapore…LOL

You must ask Michiel aka Acid Zebra from the Netherlands to recommend his tailor in Singapore, he said that he had 2 suits tailored and they fitted great. I am waiting for the tailor`s address from him too!
