Worth visiting!

A question about this place:
Thank you for your help but, how much would it cost to have a local guide take me? is it possible to stay overnight in the forest? thanks again  — 1 year ago

My brother and I stayed at “The Banana Bank Lodge” in the mountains, and we LOVED it! It’s expensive, but so worth it to stay atleast one night. I’ve never seen so many fireflies in my life as I saw there! Tons of them!

Also, Rick Steve’s has a travel podcast and one of the podcasts topics is on Belize. You can download it at itunes.

Hope that helped a bit. =D

Im not too sure about the Carribean side but the best dense forest has been on the lower pacific side of costa rice. Anything is possible, as $$$ goes a long way there and the best bet would be to call a small hotel and ask what accomodations for adventure they can offer you..

the ideal would be to hike 4 days three night in the jungle with a local guide and a mule…so we would be camping at night and paying the guide from hand to hand.. that would be my ideal hike, throw in a mayan temple and im in 7th heaven..

you guys are really cool for answering to this..

I think that your only hope of that kind of trip would be to just turn up at a local village and ask! I am not sure that paying hand to hand will get you a GOOD guide but it will get you a greedy one. If anyone has 4 days spare to guide then they will be doing it for a living, ie. Professionally.

I don’t recall any mules in the jungles when I was there but then I was always near water and dug out canoes:)

thanks again….ill probably do waht i did in peru, show up at a nearby village and find someone to guide me through the jungle.. ill arrange a daily pay for him as well as food.. and if there are no mules, ill carry my own pack!!

Check the following website for some of the tours that are available. My daughter and I went on the Cave Tubing adventure and had a great time, so I know that at least this one is reputable. Most of the tours listed give prices as well.

If these are more ‘touristy’ than what you’re looking for, you might be able to get tips on some more adventurous alternatives by contacting these places and telling them what you’re looking for.

Belize is a very poor country, but very beautiful in an untamed sort of way. I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble finding a decent guide at a good price.

Have a great time!
