I have been to Paris twice for a total of 5 weeks. I have attended performances of 11 operas in 4 different houses: the Palais Garnier, the Bastille, the Chatelet, and the Comedie-Francaise. I have twice walked by the Opera-Comique and pined as I stared at the locked entrance. I believe it was undergoing renovations in 1997, and then I think they were simply between productions last year. I want, I want, I want to attend an opera here, an important site in the history of opera, serving as venue for, among countless significant moments, the premiere of Georges Bizet’s Carmen.
