Worth visiting!
A blonde moment at the pyramids.
My daughter and I are quite blonde. When we visited this amazing site (off season) there also were dozens of school groups visiting.
I started feeling like I’d done something funny to my hair because so many people were pointing and staring at me (from various groups around the site). Then I noticed that the same attention was also being directed to my daughter.
Both of us were the object of the attention of nearly every child within sight (which was a large number of people due to the open layout of this site…and the fact that this started happening as we were walking up the Pyramid of the Moon so we were quite visible). The children were waving and calling ‘Alo’ to us and talking and pointing us out to their friends. I really didn’t know what to make of it and started to try to ignore it. It was quite difficult because, as I said, there were many school groups there and as soon as a new one saw us it would start again. At first my daughter and I laughed nervously and then we just started ignoring it. The pyramids were too amazing to put too much thought into it.
A litte while later (after about 1/2 hour of walking around feeling like a movie star), a man who was selling souvenirs (and he spoke excellent English) explained to me that everyone was staring at us because these children had never seen blonde people before. Never had and probably never would again.
My daughter and I were more interesting to these children than the pyramids that grace their horizon on a daily basis! Because of our hair colour.
I will never forget the experience. I guess I got my ‘15 minutes of fame’ that day for sure!
PS If you go then make sure you eat in the grotto that is just outside. Amazing location and pretty good food! Reasonable prices.
