Not worth visiting!

not worth it

I’m sorry but I don’t like this place. The staff are mean. Very strict on the no camera rule and I like to take a photo or two as a memory of the show. At one show I went to, the security started pounding a member of the band as he was trying to get back on stage because they couldn’t tell the difference between the band and the audience. You have to pay for everything—I like places that offer free earplugs and free water. It’s also impossible to find free parking in the area. If a band I like is playing another show I can attend, I will go to that one in order to avoid the House of Blues on Sunset.

Just a few comments/corrections to your statement.
Every band and crew member is given an all access pass. Quite often these people refuse to wear them or give them away to a friend because they seem to think everyone knows that they are part of the band. When you see a different act every night you can not possibly remember all of the people on any given night. Hence the credentials. If you won’t or don’t wear them, it’s not our problem. I am a member of the security staff at the Sunset Venue and find it hard to believe that some one got physically confronted for simply not wearing credentials. Many times people try to push past us when denied access and these people are physically restrained.
Both glasses of water and ear plugs are available for free at the bars. On especially loud nights I personally walk around with a box offering them to people.
I would agree that parking is expensive but if you look around you will notice that HOB is on of the cheaper places to park. The lot across the street is usualy $20 for self parking.

maybe you’re one of the nice guys and the HOB sunset needs more of you. the bar staff must be pocketing the money if ear plugs and water are truly free ‘cos i’ve always had to pay. (i try to bring my own earplugs ‘cos i want to be able to hear when i get old but some days you forget.) i never try to cause trouble and always listen to staff but i swear i’ve encountered more problems at this particular venue than all others i have been to. the night i decided to avoid HOB as much as possible was when one guy working the door singled me out to take back my chain wallet to the car (6” chain) even though he was letting others in with longer chains or other items that are potentially harmful.

p.s. the band member incident was years ago. i think he fell into the audience from the stage and as he was trying to climb back up, the staff pounded him and the audience boo-ed. a bad night. i was up in front and was trying to help the guy get back up there. i remember he was wearing his band member wristband but it was a long time ago and i don’t remember much else.
