Craig's Castle

Worth visiting!

Our own little castle  — 2 years ago

I wouldn’t call it a castle, it’s more of a quaint tower with a great view of CT. The drive up to the castle is beautiful and serene, though if you’re the driver you’re spending all your concentration on staying on the narrow road & squeezing by oncoming cars. The castle gate is open during the summer and then you can enjoy the view of CT from the top of the tower, you can see as far as Waterbury maybe even farther. There are interesting woods & rocks to explore- though the folks with fear of hights should refrain from nearing the edge. There is a park with a pond/lake at the base of the hill. I don’t know the milage up the hill but it would be a stiff walk as it is a 10 minute drive or so.

Also, entry to the park & castle is free!

Castle Craig

You have to go into Hubbard Park in Meriden, CT If you want to go up to Castle Craig you can go in the spring, summer and fall. Hubbard Park is beautiful and rated the best park in CT. In the spring, it has the daffodil festival. People from all over the state come and marvel at the over 500,000 daffodils. Christmas time it has festival of lights. There is million of white lighted decorations. You can park at the skate house and look in the windows and see decorations. And than drive through the park and look at the decorations. It is free to the public. When the pond freezes, the city lets you skate on it. They open the skate house for you to warm up by the wood stove. It is a park for all seasons and something us Meridenites are proud of.
