Off season prices should be reasonable. If you can afford it, stay in old san juan, theres more to do. Check out El Morro, if you’re into old Spanish forts.
I didn’t get a chance to dive while I was there but again it should be reasonable. Check out the beaches on the south side of the island, they have florescent plankton that glow in the dark at night.
Drive out (carefully) to Vijardo to catch an island hopper ($60 round trip if I remember correctly) to culebra and see flamingo beach (one of the top 5 beaches in the world!)
El Yunke is the famous rain forest, look for a deal that will take you to the rainforest, allow you to hike it yourself and pick you up on the other side.
Above all, don’t worry if you forget to pack something, theres a walgreens around every corner. Well, in San Juan.
Have Fun!

I can’t say about central america because I dont know the exchange rates but you can compare your currency with the american dollar and decide.
I doubt you will find any raves though. It’s all reggaeton around here. You can find some clubs that play techno but an all out rave, I really doubt it.
Pretty much do what Frank told you for the diving, except that it’s called Fajardo not Vijardo.

If youre not currently a certified diver get certified before you go down to save money and enjoy your time exploring.
We went all over the place but found a great hotel in Guanica in the South. I found a great dry forest to explore and a cave that I got lost in. Went to the “Phosphorescent Bay” which was worth doing.
If you do drive it can get pretty crazy during rush hours and it can get confusing sometimes when five different roads are named the same thing.
Its been a while since my trip there so I thought it was a bit pricey.. but then I was broke anyhow. Compared to Belize it was much more expensive.
You can check out my photos of my trip here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dugfresh/sets/646569/

It is expensive compare to Central America, and you’ll be arriving in high season, but it is worth it. The climate at that time of the year is perfect. The places people suggested to visit are spot on. I’d also suggest to drop by the caves at Camuy (amazing) and if you’re into surfing go to the west coast of the island (Isabela).
As far as raves go, yes there are raves going on, but like all good things, you’ve got to get to know some locals. They do happen, I’ve gone to several and it’s a blast. Yes, reggaeton and salsa are all over the place, but there are also some techno clubs, raves and some DIY rock shows with some really good local bands.
All in all, I hope you enjoy your time in the island.

Yes, it is pricey compared to The Americas except North America (USA)compared to which it is inexpesive.
There are beautiful beaches and beach sites around the island to select from. The Conquistador Hotel and the islands of Palomino and Palominito are great to visit, beautiful blue clear waters! If you are into museums you must visit the Ponce Museum (south of the island) that houses and extensive and important collection of works of art form around the world. Of course there is a lot of history in the walls of of EL Morro and the streets of Old San Juan, small and attractive tourists shops and designer outlets around the Plaza of Old San Juan. Hope you like it.
