i want to do a bunch of the touristy stuff in LA even though ive lived “down the street” my whole life.

I’m the same way. I enjoy having friends from out of state visit as an excuse to go to Hollywood, Griffith Park, etc…. I want to go to Hollywood Forever Cemetery too- I get more excited about visiting celebrity graves than seeing live ones.
If people come from all over the world to do the touristy stuff, why shouldn’t we? =)

my best friend lives in west hollywood. and he lives in the middle of all the touristy stuff. i get so jealous all the time…he gets to do things on a normal basis that some people wait for vacation to get to do. he dosent get it. i want to go to the chinesse theatre, and see a play at the mark taper forum. i want to go see that stuff. i want to go look at the hollywood sign, take pictures up there… its so LA. its a fairy tale with hidden scars. and i love that about it. theres so many nooks and cranneys all over LA so many places to be discovered – how do people do it in their week long vacation to California?

I love your “fairy tale with hidden scars” description… I was talking with some other friends about how they’ve never really done touristy stuff either. I’ve done more of it, from having friends visit who wanted to see “everything”, but we decided we should all just go up to Hollywood some weekend and forget having to have an excuse to go.
I have no idea how people see LA in a week, let alone all of California. It’s taken me my whole life to visit maybe 25% of what there is to see.. maybe not even that much. I had to spend a week just in Yosemite to see a fraction of it!
But I decided I really need to take advantage of living in LA more and just start seeing things…
