Worth visiting!

A review of this place: A bit disappointing

The last time I was here it was a bit disappointing that everything was cordoned off and “protected” from tourists (like myself). It’s hard to get a feel for the place when you can’t touch anything. I enjoyed the standing stones at Avebury much more.

This being said, there is only one Stonehenge! Just don’t shell out any major coin for visits/tours/etc.

Um... actually, there are TWO

Out near the eastern Washington State town of Goldendale, there’s a replica of Stonehenge on the stony hills overlooking the Columbia River. It’s a pretty spectacular location for what is claimed to be an “exact” replica (I dunno about that) that was constructed as a monument to WWI veterans. http://www.viamagazine.com/weekenders/Goldendale04.asp

Nearby, the Maryhill Winery provides a great terrace and amphitheater – in my opinion, a far more compelling destination than a bunch of faux-Neolithic rocks.
