I hadn’t planned the trip, so didn’t realise that we actually weren’t staying in Catania at all! We stayed in a villa about 15 minutes drive away from Syracuse. It was absolutely beautiful. We were right next to the sea, made a lot of day trips to various places, ate well – it was a lot of fun. Catania, we didn’t see. We tried to go on our last day before going to the airport, but couldn’t find parking! Drove around the town for 20 minutes, then decided we were probably going to end up in a car crash – the drivers there are SO scary! So in the end we went to a restaurant on the outskirts. It was a small truckers’ stop, but possibly the best food we had while we were out there! Italy is surprising like that!
