It's Way Down Deep!
I believe that Covent Garden is the deepest station on the Underground system. Where most stations have stairs or an escalator to convey passengers between the station platform and the surface, at Covent Garden you ride in an elevator.
The elevators themselves are quite large. They hold maybe 20 people, perhaps more. Owing to the depth of the station the ride to the surface is quite long.
Covent Garden is a very interesting place in and of itself to visit. I normally find a very ecelctic mix of people, and it’s a place that I try to pop in and visit, even if only for a short time, whenever I’m in London.
It’s interesting, while riding in the lift to see what close quarters you and your fellow passengers are in, and what an odd mix of people it is most of the time.
