Why I want to go to this place

Read Tony Cohan’s description of Xalapa in “Mexican Days”: it’s utterly captivating.

A cool, misty city redolent of coffee, Xalapa is nestled at 4000’ of elevation in the mountains above Veracruz and below the volcanic dome of Pico de Orizaba. A lively cultural and intellectual center, this city of 400,000 sounds like the perfect place to experience Mexico without succumbing to beach culture.

Plus, in 2005 many residents of Xalapa reported seeing an invasion of UFOs. Even space aliens want to visit this place!

¿Xalapa next month?

I just learned about a particular psychotherapy training session in Xalapa in January that would have value to me. There are so many reasons not to go, but your comment here prompts me to research the area further.

By the way, I cite Bro. Cohan at Neal Cassady’s Deathplace. Great book, ¿no?

Great book, si!

If your research convinces you to visit Xalapa (training session or no), I hope you’ll share your impressions of the place. I realize it’s risky to base one’s expectations on only one person’s opinion, but he certainly got my attention, and I’d love to hear corroboration or debate regarding the merits of the place.
