Pitcairn

How can I get there?  — 3 years ago

Pitcairn is a little piece of rock in the middle of nowhere. There are just 46 people living there. All of them are descendent of the Bounty mutineers and beautiful Tahitian women. The Pitcairn’s history is a kind of dream, a escape dream. When everything goes wrong, I just say I’m leaving all behind and moving to Pitcairn. It’s just a joke because I don’t know how to get there! I mean… do I take a airplane to Oakland and get a boat to the island? Uhm…

First of all, decide if you do want to go

And now, if you still want to go, it can be arranged.

First, you might consider joining the Navy.

Second, find out what anthropological and other academic teams, such as those which may have marine biologists, geologists, naturalists, might be going there. Use your search engines, write to universities, check with travel agents.

Pitcairn is a real place.

I think you need to do more research on pitcairn island, do a web search for news articles.
Apparently the island is still run by the direct decendants from the bounty. I read a couple of articles that said The island has a history of domestic violence, child abuse & rape. There was a certain case that was in our papers for a couple of weeks when 5 men most them related where accused of all sorts of crimes, i cant remember the exact outcomes of the case i think they had problems with the witnesses and the investigators were even having problems getting on the island. It certainly has alot of interesting history, if you decide to go have fun and goodluck.

pitcairn website

The Pitcairn Islanders have their own website – you can find it here
http://www.lareau.org/pitc.html

Pitcairn has been at the centre of great controversy over the last few years and actually getting onto the Island is unbelievably difficult due to the ocean swells and geography of the land.

The Pitcairn Islanders have been pretty much left to fend for themselves and have governed themselves up until this year when a majority of the male inhabitants were arrested for rape, child abuse and domestic violence (murder? I can’t remember). They still speak a pigeon dialect pretty much the same as was spoke in Fletcher Christian’s time of which most if not all claim to be direct descendents.

Why do you want to go there? It isn’t easy and they don’t really trust outsiders from what I can gather. Check out as many news articles as you can. Their website will give you an idea of exactly how cut off and singular they are from the rest of the modern world as we know it. I think the trial is still ongoing and incredibly complicated. They are relying on evidence of islanders who left and made homes in New Zealand.

Desolate places

I had a massive passionate moment the other night. I got on google earth and I panned around the globe for the most remote places i could find. the south pacific came to mind and there out by its lonesome little self sat Pitcairn Island and its islands…

I was enthralled immediately. I looked up their website and found some travel information.

I cannot believe that man can live on such remote places. I am desparately interested in going to visit pitcairn and would love it if someone wanted to go with me. I consider myself a documentarian in photo and videography. Would any writers, poets, or anthropologists like to come?
