Sarasota sucks... (Pic is the John Ringling Mansion.)

The subject matches my desciption of this place and since I am true cracker here from sarasota I am entitled to it…

My mother is 60 and I am 20 for years we’ve we haven’t found many amusing things to do, and as the years progress life just gets duller here in SRQ. Music isn’t really aloud to be played after 8pm in majority of areas, so bands and clubs are restricted to 1 or 2 streets here. A lot of the clubs that we did have closed down, or turn to homosexual.

Tourists season begins 1st week or Oct. and ends last week of Apr., but this year it seemed like it never stopped. Also, homes around here don’t cost less than 250,000 and that for a 2 bedroom/1 bath in a crappy neighbrohood. Bussinesses are suffering, and we don’t really have a mall people really care to go to. Our buses end by 6pm and don’t run on Sundays. Traffic is horrible, with the elderly and construction.

We have poor education, and our best school is an art school which is what are downtown is filled of. None, of them are making money and it’s rundown there. We do have one great beach, but everyday is overpacked, and you can’t enjoy it without being stepped on while tanning or have some quiet time to yourself. The people are stuck up rich ass folks, and dumb younger people.

It’s a great place to die at, I guess…

Ha, i forgot the pay scale for this crappy town. Let’s me say there are barely any jobs that pay more than $20,000 a year. When you can go up north and do the same exact job and get $30,000. Oh, don’t forget majority of yours place now close down because they can’t afford the rent and the sudden drop after tourist season. The beach is getting worst by the way, and now you can’t enjoy the drum cirlce which was a Sarasota only people thing. Meh, people wonder why there are so many pervs ib Sarasota, and it’s because were all online. God, I can’t wait to get out!

O wow. Those are some strong words. I get what you mean about Sarasota because I lived there for 16 years. But I definately disagree with most of what you said. Life is good there. The beach and sunshine alone make it worth it. There are always interesting people there because there are always toursits. In season, you can sit at a stop light and see liscence plates from 5 different states. Maybe you should try talking to people that visit instead of complaining about them. And if you really hate it, move. I did and I realized how incredibly special SRQ is. Sarasota is gorgeous and wonderful. If its cultural diversity you crave, Sarasota has it. If its outdoor activites you want, just step outside. If its a night life, take the 45 minute drive to Tampa or Clearwater. Get off your computer and experience Sarasota with an open mind!

Love Sarasota

I must agree with the previous comment entirely; Sarasota is an amazing place. I understand people having there own opinions, but I think the incorrect information in the previous statements should be corrected. One, Sarasota has the 13th best beach in America and has been ranked the first in prior years. It is over crowded, but that is because it is gorgeous. If you have lived there long enough or have any friends there, you would know the places on the beach where there is NOBODY.

Second, there is no (I repeat no) curfew for loud sound. I know nightclub owners and they are doing very well. There are awesome places to go and most Saturday nights there is some theme on main street which is supported by the local bars. Third, like any place there are poor jobs, but unlike any place, Sarasota also has very good jobs. Most jobs which make a fair amount of money need a college degree, but if you want to open a business, as long as you sell quality merchandise you have a good chance of making it. Fourth, seriously? There was a problem with garbage pick up? Sarasota prides itself on being an extremely beautiful and clean art community and in the past 21 years that I have lived there I have not had a garbage problem.

Finally, Sarasota is an art community which started much like art in Laguna beach. If you are not into art, sun, sand, amazing entertainment, beautiful sunsets, or marine life; then maybe it is not for you.If you enjoy any of those things, then visit. Most the people are very nice (every town has some sour apples) and yes, housing is expensive, but, as they say, you get what you pay for.
