Worth visiting!

Worth every minute!  — 3 years ago

I’ve been loads of times and I have to say it is one of those places you fall in love with. The weather is mild and gentle, the sights breathtaking and the people wellcoming as the can be. I don’t like wine but I know Amandi wine (thats its name) is one of the best wines in Galicia.

Sidra?

Maybe you don’t drink alcohol or just prefer beer but I wonder if you could tell me if they make cider/sidra/sagardoa anywhere in the region, or is that just in Asturias and Pais Vasco?

Not Sidra Natural

I think you’re talking about “Sidra Natural”, that sort of cider without sparkles which is poured into a glass with the botle well above the head. That particular type of cider is only made in Asturias and Pais Vasco. In Canyon del Sil (as in the rest of Galicia) traditional alcoholic drinks are wine and “aguardiente” (“burning water”) a sort of brandy (quite alcoholic in fact). With this aguardiente it is traditional to prepare “queimada” (“burnt one”) by burning this liquor with some coffee grains, suggar and orange peel while reciting a spell or “conxuro” suposed to keep evil away from the drinker (this is done particularly during festivities). Most of the alcohol desapears if it is allowed to burn properly and it becomes a tasty drink.
