Peru: Lima: Miraflores: LarcoMar

Sad, more than anything else

I think LarcoMar, in Miraflores was the saddest part of Lima. I was staying at the Sheraton in downtown Lima (courtesy of LANPERU for screwing everything else up), and the hotel staff provided a car for the visitors to somewhere fun. I was excited for the first two minutes, but was more broken that the trendy hip place in Lima was a cheap imitation of American malls. I’m not saying that a culture should retain itself whole and reject all globalization for my enjoyment, but it was the CHEAP (and unoriginal) part that bothered me the most. Everything was overpriced (relatively in Peru) too. The only upsides were the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, and the children in the mini carnival/arcade riding a robot elephant.

WHAT???

First you said that Larcomar is cheap and then you said everything was overpriced…? You need to make up your mind.

Larcomar is a place where people go to have fun, relax, shop and watch movies. It is what it is and it’s unlike anything else.

If it didn’t meet your expectations than you should’ve left, but you stayed so stop complaining and making it seem like it’s worse than it is.

American Malls maybe cheap imitation of Larcomar?

I can’t believe you could make your own life so miserable with your bad attitude. I do believe yours must be the only negative comment for Larcomar on the entire net. So you had a few problems, get counselling. A cheap imitation of American malls? Maybe American malls are a cheap imitation of Larcomar? Have you been to malls in other countries? It’s a mall – sounds like you were hoping for a cheap market but I doubt if that would have pleased you either. You must expect prices to be higher where merchants have to pay more for rent. I found their prices to be not unreasonable for their location and the quality of merchandise. In fact I am sure the prices at Larcomar are much lower than they would be in North America. I will return to Peru and spend more than my previous two days in Miraflores. When not sightseeing I will hang around the mall and enjoy it all, which costs nothing!

I gotta agree with the other commenters here and say that your comment is more against malls in general than LarcoMar…. which is…. JUST A MALL. I think you are taking it a bit too seriously.

The nightlife in the mall is rather excellent. Gotica is (so far) the best club I’ve been to in south america.
