That was in 1993!! (Yes I looked very 90s in that pic).. Ah, about 13 yrs ago!! It has been too long ago that I have forgotten most of the names of the places of interest we had been there…But I clearly remember it felt so unreal and magical when I arrived at those ancient architectural building, felt very much like in a movie ;P

Ok, first and faremost, I don’t remember the name of this popular church(there were lots of tourists in this area) I was standing in front of, not sure if it’s St. Peter or St. Paul Cathedral?? Do let me know if anyone happens to know!?

I do remember some of the more memorable places like the Colosseum, the Piazza and.. Via dei Condotti, a very cool shopping area that leads towards the big square where you could find tons of people seating and resting there..And lots of pigeons flying in that square too, yap, just like in the movie! It was very romantic and relaxed feeling when I was there, and the people were so charming! Ha, perhaps too charming that I was almost groped by some Italian men :P

I especially remember the Via dei Condotti well because that’s where I found this lovely “La Perla” Italian brand :)… And that’s when I realised that the Italian women seem to pay much attention to their inner beauty! ;).. Their lingeries shops were so exquisite looking and the lingeries they carried were all so beautiful and sexy looking!! So when I went back to Singapore, I looked high and low for this particular La Perla brand, and did manage to find in a very exclusive shop but it was way too expensive for me to buy anything there, damn…I was cursing myself of not buying more of their lovely lingeries when I was there!!

With that 3,4 days experience just in Rome, and another few more days in other parts of Italian cities, I must say that Italy is a place that I found oozed with much sensuality!!!!

I would definitely love to go back there one day again!!

Great picture!

Isn’t it fun to see how your own personal style has changed since 13 years ago? Personally, my hair style has changed quite a bit — mostly because I have less hair! :p

So how did you escape from the Italian men? ;-)

Thank you so much..

Yap I personally think most of those pics taken in the early 90s was quite hilarious..funny hairdo, dreadful make up and strange clothes! Yet strangely enough, it was considered quite cool at that time! lol

Well regarding those italian men, haha, I gave them an astonish look and then annoyance look, and that probably scared them off ;P

I guess they were quite fascinated to see an asian lady with fair skin and wanted to reach out and feel my skin lol..And that actually happened twice, and another time was grabbed by hand by another man!

Italian men will pinch bottoms, too.

My best friend’s beautiful wife told us that when she was a tourist in Rome a few years ago, she had to keep her hands behind her back when she walked because strangers would come up to her and pinch her bum! Pretty bold, these Italian men, although I must say, she does have a gorgeous posterior! ;) In any case, she was mystified, annoyed, shocked, all at the same time by this very forward behaviour while she was in Rome; which in Canada, is never done in public places.

Don’t think that the groping was accidental, Stylish! ;)

Ya...

They seem very passionate people, way too friendly for me ;P

I don’t mind to be groped by my partner, but not strangers, hahaha!!

How serendipitous!

Something I was wondering about with my girl friends today… with all these Italian men pinching butts all the time, how come that four gorgeous girls like us, sporting the most diverse kinds of back, have never been touched in 30 and more years of living in Italy?

I’m mystified, shocked and appalled that my buttcheeks were never considered worth a pinch!

I will surely complain with the National Butt Pincher Association, rest assured.

What We Have Here...

Great entry! I noticed no one answered your question about the church in the background. It is St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. The St. Paul’s of Roma, basilica of San Paolo fuori la mura (St. Paul’s outside the walls), which is located on the cemetery where the apostle Paul was buried, looks very different. I uploaded a photo above.

The reason you might be thinking St. Paul’s is that there is a St. Paul’s in the world that looks very similar, but it is in London (St. Paul’s Cathedral). The reason it looks similar is Sir Christopher Wren was inspired by Michelangelo’s design of St. Peter’s basilica when he was designing the London church. At the time, they say, the people of London didn’t want Wren to build his domed church because it looked “foreign” to them with its dome and no spire!

I believe the square you were thinking of near the cool shopping area was the piazza and fountain at the foot of the Spanish steps. Across the street from the base of these steps is a long street of very upscale shops.

Isn’t Roma a very otherworldly experience?

Unappreciated at the time!

Hey, thanks for info… I love the bit “at the time, they say, the people of London didn’t want Wren to build his domed church because it looked “foreign” to them with its dome and no spire!” – sounds like those Parisiens who insisted on dining every day in the Eiffel Tower so they wouldn’t have to look at it!

Yeah, you’re right, Stylish is refering to the Piazza di Spagna at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, and the upscale street is the Via dei Condotti.

I Plagiarized

I got all my info on St. Paul’s from a delightful woman who works there and took us around and gave us the skinny on the place. I only wish I could write it in her voice because she was so wonderful to listen to.

That's wonderful that you visited this exciting city.

I think it’s very special, FlyGirl, that you’ve had the chance to tour one of the worlds renowned cities. And it was an extra treat to have heard the story from the local woman. :)

Carpe Iter Itineris

For many years, I wanted to travel, but didn’t have the opportunity, so I take as much advantage as I can of the chances I get. I’m fortunate.
