The Pan-American Highway runs from Quellón, Chile, to Fairbanks, Alaska. It is the longest highway in the world, and the network of roads measure nearly 48,000km (29,800 miles). Parts are paved, parts are forest roads, and every type of geographical scenery is present on this road. It goes through Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, United States, and Canada.

How amazing would it be to take a car and drive its entire length???

Comments:

That would be incredible to travel the entire length

but what about connecting Panama and Colombia? I have heard that there is some gap, that nothing is connected there. Is this true?

The Darian Gap

There is indeed a gap between Panama and Colombia, but you cannot drive it. It is a good thing as it acts as a barrier between North and South America.

We recently drove the entire Pan American Highway. Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego – part of the story is at www.junglavista.com

Paul and Jeanne
