Worth visiting!

Gorgeous and Historic  — 3 years ago

I’ve visited Normandy several times, the most memmorable was on the 50th anniversary of d-day (also my 15th birthday). We spent hours hiking along the coast tyring to visualize what the experience of the landing must have been like for Allied troops.

The area is very beautiful and definitely worth visiting.

I was there the 60th anniversary...

I spent an entire day walking the length of Omaha Beach, sitting occasionally to stare at the water, and up at the cliffs, and wonder what it would have been like to be running towards them, while being shot at… It is definitely something anyone even remotely interested in D-Day should do.

The most emotional thing for me were the guys walking around in their father’s WWII uniforms. At the 60th, there weren’t as many veterans left… in fact, most people in Normandy assented that it was probably the last major anniversary that any vets would attend.

The photograph is of a man in his grandfather’s uniform, gathering sand on Omaha Beach on the 60th anniversary.
