Where I came from, there’s this tremendously fabulous movie-slash-speakeasy called the Parkway www.picturepubpizza.com, that I miss so much. Funky movies, local film-makers, curent mainstream flix, whatever, but thoughtfully calendared. And so fun! You order a slice of greasy pizza, a pitcher of beer from the counter(or if you’re wearing dark clothes, some nachos—you trying eating them reclining in the dark!) and bring them to the sofa of your choice in the theater.

In my eyes, this was why they make you wait to turn 21 before you can drink. They were saving these cool pleasures for just when you thought you were old enough to get jaded about what’s out there. The theater is all ages, but sipping a beer in a theater just seemed so…

(Albeit, I rarely partake of alcohol.)

But that’s why I go to muvico now, to cozy up next to my hubby on a comfy sofa for a movie while munching a nice dinner, (pizza, sushi, whatever,) in the dark. The only thing is, I miss the crunchy, slightly musty old sofas of the Parkway. Muvico is so elegant that sitting above the rest of the audience feels too close to trying to “be above” them.
