We’re looking at going in about, say, five years. We have to save up the money, and get the children prepared.
We are learning both Mandarin and Cantonese. Slow going, when you don’t have many Chinese here with whom to practice, in the rural Georgia swamps and forests. Still, we have at least one Chinese family in every other town around, so there’s someone with whom to talk that lingo.
You should see the smiles on the faces of folk when we walk in and speak even a few words. We have begun some friendships which might not have happened otherwise, had we not been teaching ESL and not trying to understand Chinese cultures and languages.
